The professional journal “Legal Dialogue” is published with the purpose of development, promotion and exchange of legal thought amongst theorists and practitioners in the field of law and human rights. That is where the name of the journal stems from, alluding to the development of dialogue and expression of different opinions and points of view on topics that involve human rights and the rule of law.
The first edition of “Legal Dialogue” was published on November 20th 2010.
Starting in 2020, the professional journal “Legal Dialogue” will be issued twice a year with the publication of papers that will be expected to have an influence on resolving dilemmas regarding legal and theoretical topics covering human rights and the rule of law.

Following world trends, as well as the need to introduce novelties, starting from this issue, the professional journal “Legal Dialogue” will be out twice a year with the publication of scientific papers that are expected to have an influence on resolving dilemmas in terms of specific questions on a national level, while the analysis of the European Court’s judgments on human rights will enable the proper application of the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights in the national legislation of the Republic of North Macedonia.
This edition of “Legal Dialogue” includes papers from various topics and areas related to human rights and the rule of law with the aim of keeping your attention and introducing diversity in the selection of current topics not only in our country, but wider. For that reason, in this issue you will be able to read about the practices of the European Court of Human Rights through analysis of specific cases, the status of judges, the environment that has recently earned its spot in Strasbourg’s practices, the role of the ombudsman in Montenegro, the human rights situation during the derogation from Article 15 of the ECHR as well as the role of the Constitutional Court during a state of emergency.
Furthermore, you can find out something more on the theories of civil subjective law, the outcome of the effectiveness of judicial decisions, the situation of, unfortunately, the more and more common human trafficking in North Macedonia as well as get acquainted with the obligations coming from the contract of sale in accordance with the Law on Obligations.
We are especially pleased with the fact that this issue also includes young authors who nurture a love for law and science and who enriched this edition of “Legal Dialogue” with their research and work.

This jubilee (20th) edition of the professional journal “Legal Dialogue” is dedicated to the issue of increasingly frequent discrimination in the Republic of North Macedonia in all spheres of social life, as well as the problems surrounding its recognition and sanctioning. For that reason, we decided to dedicate this edition to discrimination, more specifically to prevention of acts of discrimination, recognition of discriminatory grounds as well as presenting ways of protection against discrimination before the Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination, but also before the regular courts.
With this thematic edition of “Legal Dialogue” we mark the tenth anniversary since the founding of the Institute for Human Rights, whose aim and mission still remains the promotion, advancement and protection of human rights and freedom through continuous education of the professional public and analysis of the situation in the country through empowerment of the capacities and mechanisms for protection of basic human rights and freedom.
We hope that the articles contained in “Legal Dialogue” will raise awareness of the consequences of discrimination as well as the acts of hate speech that stem from it, that they will acquaint the general public with the forms and shapes of discrimination and stereotypes, and will display the stigma surrounding people that are subjected to discrimination.
In addition, we would like to point out that starting from next year, with the purpose of achieving greater efficiency, “Legal Dialogue” will be published twice a year by announcing a call for submission of papers that will reflect the theoretical aspects of topics related to human rights and rule of law in the country, as well as the other countries in Europe in general and scientific papers that will refer to the analysis of specific rulings of the European Court of Human Rights and European Court of Justice.
